Weather leads to crash that injures three

Severe weather and flooding led to a crash that injured three people on the morning of July 20 in the Chicago area. Heavy downpours, severe thunderstorms, and wet roads led to multiple accidents. The severe weather made it difficult for drivers to see and for them to stop.

The three people injured in a crash involving that many cars occurred on the Edens Expressway in the Chicago suburb of Skokie. One of the three people injured suffered critical injuries in the crash.

The crash began when the driver, 25, of a Subaru lost control on I-94 at 4:54 am. Illinois State Police said the vehicle skidded on the wet road and hit the wall on the left side of the roadway. The Subaru was then hit by a Volvo. A 40-year-old man driving a Buick witnessed the crash, but could not stop in time due to the weather conditions.

Two of the three cars involved in the crash suffered heavy damage and one victim had to be extricated from a vehicle by the fire department. The driver of the Subaru suffered life-threatening, serious injuries and was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital. The victim who was 25 had to undergo surgery and was in critical condition.

The two other victims were taken to Evanston NorthShore Hospital. According to state police, their injuries were not life-threatening and their conditions were stabilized at the hospital. The state police said that all three drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation.
